Mumbai: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is floating a bid to improve connectivity of Andheri, Ghatkopar and Jagruti Nagar Metro stations.
The plan is to connect Andheri metro station with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bridge, as a third connectivity option. At the moment, the Metro station has direct connectivity with Andheri railway station and GK Gokhale Bridge through a skywalk.
“Those who travel in Metro and cross the railway tracks using the public bridge will not have to climb down the bridge and up the stairs of the station again,” said an MMRDA official.
Furthermore, the Ghatkopar West skywalk will also be connected to the Ghatkopar Metro station. There is a gap of a few feet that needs to be bridged, and a few steps will have to be constructed. Currently, those not possessing a train ticket or platform ticket are not supposed to use the railway foot overbridge to go to Ghatkopar East via the bridge connected to the Metro station.
For the past few years, the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road construction has been underway. Now, the road work below Jagruti Nagar Metro station is complete. “Dispersal of Metro station will be made here by way of stairs,” said an MMRDA official.
