MOSR flags off Coimbatore–KSR Bengaluru AC Double-Decker UDAY Express

COIMBATORE: Shri Rajen Gohain, Hon’ble Union Minister of State of Railways, along with Shri Pon Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Financing and Shipping, flagged off the inaugural special of UDAY Express train service between Coimbatore Junction – KSR Bengaluru during a function held at Coimbatore Junction Railway station today, the 8th of June, 2018.  The Minister also inaugurated a Lift at Platform  3 & 4 of Coimbatore Junction railway station. Shri.P. Nagaraj, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Shri.A.K.Selvaraj, Hon’ble Member of Parliament graced the occasion by their presence.

The inaugural special of UDAY Express inaugurated by the Hon’ble MOS (Railways) today from Coimbatore.

Shri. Rajen Gohain, Hon’ble Union Minister of State of Railways,  in his keynote address,  expressed his happiness about the introduction of UDAY  Express fulfilling the dreams of the people of Coimbatore.  He stated that Indian Railways has surpassed several milestones and is the growth engine of Indian economy.  He said that in lines with Hon’ble Minister of Railways’ vision,  Indian Railways is committed to  elimination of Unmanned Level Crossings, strengthening of rail infrastructure, fast-tracking electrification of railway lines ,100% LED illumination of Railway stations and other key areas.

The Minister lauded the efforts of Southern Railway in maintaining cleanliness at railway stations and praised the  involvement of rail users and general public in keeping the railway stations and surroundings neat and clean.  He said Coimbatore Junction is witnessing key developments in infrastructure.  A host of on going projects such as Premium Automated Parking Management System, Multilevel two-wheeler Parking, Platform extension works, Water recycling plant, Food Plaza at main entry concourse and additional lifts and escalators would be of immense benefit to the rail users, the Minister added.  Acceding to the appeal from Hon’ble Members of Parliament and people of Coimbatore, the Minister announced that Coimbatore North railway station would be developed and Platform extension works at Veerapandi and Pudupalayam would be carried out in near future.  The Minister assured that representation for Introduction of Mettupalayam – Madurai train service will be considered positively.

Shri.Pon Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Financing and Shipping, in his address to the gathering thanked Central Government for increasing the budgetary outlay for rail projects in Tamilnadu and stated that in the past 4 years the allotment has gone up by 160%.   Shri.P. Nagaraj, and Shri.A.K.Selvaraj, Hon’ble Members of Parliament also expressed their thanks to Railway Ministry for introducing two new trains from Tamilnadu.

Shri R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway, Shri U. Subbarao, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, Principal Head of Departments and officers and staff of Southern Railway were present on the occasion.
