Thane, Jul 13: A new railway station between Thane and Airoli is in the offing and the Thane Member of Parliament Sanjeev Naik has taken a lead in the same.
Mr.Naik, who was speaking while inaugurating the two-day 3rd Prospectus cup Rapid Chess Inter school tournaments here today, said, “in the wake of growing population in the belt, there is a dire need for one station between Thane and Airoli which will be at a distance of at least three km.”; The MP, along with the local villagers, surveyed the location for the new railway station and said he would take up the issue with the Railway Ministry and Centre to get the same cleared at the earliest.
This new station would help lakhs of people who reside in the Digha region if this new station comes up at Digha, he said and added that there has been a long pending demand from the local villagers for one such station.
The villagers are presently dependent on the Airoli station to reach the village or the Thane station which was a waste of time, he said.
The work on the new indoor stadium being constructed at the cost of around Rs 30 crore was fast progressing and the stadium itself should be ready within the next four months, he said.
Also present on the occasion were Congress Chief Balkrishna Purnekar and his NCP counterpart Manoj Pradhan.
