MUD approves projects worth Rs.170 Crore for Bhopal under JNNURM Fund

BHOPAL: Construction of Kamla Park cable-stayed bridge, Habibganj railway over-bridge (ROB) and Moti Masjid flyover would commence soon as the Centre has approved various projects of around Rs 170 crore for the state capital on Monday. Besides, consent has also been given for revised alignment for the ROB and flyover structures.

Under the approved works, supplementary detailed project report (DPR) for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) for Rs.121 crore, 18.64 crore for Lake Front Development Scheme and Rs 28.11 crore for the Kamla Park bridge were given a nod at a meeting of the central sanctioning and monitoring committee (CSMC) of the Union urban development ministry, JNNURM mission director, finance ministry and officials of central public works department.

The ROB initially was cutting through the BSSS College which resulted in a dispute with the college. Thereafter, the design was modified for the ministry to re-approve. Similarly, a mini sea-link was proposed in the Kamla Park area, which is a constant traffic bottleneck. But a section of muslims opposed the same saying three mosques would be affected by it. Hence the cable-stayed bridge was proposed.

Officials of Bhopal Municipal Corporation were also present at the meeting.
