ALLAHABAD: With an aim to provide better and improved facilities, the Allahabad division of the railways has improved the sanitation system at Allahabad and Kanpur stations by introducing mechanised cleaning.
“Special attention is being given to cleanliness under the ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat’ campaign wherein the contract for intensive mechanised cleaning at Aligarh, Tundla, Phaphund, Etawah, Fatehpur and Mirzapur stations of Allahabad division of NCR has been awarded,” Amitabh, Divisional Railway Manager, Allahabad.
Mechanised cleaning system will be implemented by an Allahabad-based company with the railways having contracted for about Rs 30 crores for four years.
Stations will be cleaned by 11 types of machines, including ride on scrubber drier, walk behind automatic scrubber drier, walk behind manual sweeping machine, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, single disc scrubber door/window dry cleaner, back pack dry vacuum cleaner, window vacuum cleaner, hand compression insecticide spray machine, steam cleaner machine and high pressure jet cleaner.
Apart from this, a plastic bottle crusher machine has also been installed at platform number one of Allahabad station.
“Many passengers throw empty plastic bottles at station premises. To fix this a bottle crushing machine has been installed and another would be installed soon at Kanpur Central station,” said the DRM.
