Neelanchal Express robbery: Government railway police suspends 2 constables

KANPUR: Government railway police  (GRP) has suspended two police constables for dereliction of duty in connection with Friday’s robbery on 12876 Neelachal Express.

SP (GRP) Wajih Ahmed said constables Sarvesh and Rajesh, who were on duty in the train, have been placed under suspension.

A seven member gang had thashed and looted passengers on board the general coach of the train as they were returning home from Delhi to the Puri-bound train between Tundla and Shikohabad railway stations. The gangsters had reportedly boarded the train at New Delhi railway station and escaped near Sarai Bhoopat railway station in Etawah after committing the crime.

At Phafund station, the passengers lodged a complaint with the GRP, who launched an investigation. Meanwhile, SP (GRP) Wajih Ahmed said that the criminals have been identified and would be arrested soon. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused. GRP SHO Yashpal Singh said they have got vital clues pertaining to the case. “Few suspects have been detained and their interrogation is underway,” he said.
