Mysore Jn (MYS): The city’s rail connectivity with the rest of India is set to become improved with the extension of Bangalore-Mumbai Udayan Express to Mysore, introduction of a new rail from Mysore to Varanasi, a new overnight train from Mysore to Talaguppa and making the Mysore-Hazarath Nizamuddin Swarna Jayanthi Express bi-weekly.
This was announced by outgoing Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mr. Vinod Kumar at a press conference here on Friday.
The new services will become a reality within 6 months. Four Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) will also be installed to decrease congestion at the booking counter at Mysore railway station, Mr. Kumar said.
Other facilities which will materialize include the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation’s food plaza at Arsikere, fast food unit at Hassan, and appointment of Janasadharan Ticket Booking Sewaks at 23 locations in 14 stations.
An integrated security system at Mysore railway station will be commissioned to ensure safety of passengers while a comprehensive mechanized cleaning system will be set up at 8 major railway stations.
Stating the major works completed during his tenure, Mr. Kumar said track doubling between Arsikere-Birur 44.64 kilometer (km), and the 22.7 km stretch between Birur and Shivani was completed.
