New Railway Minister finalize candidates for top posts in Railway Board

Union Minister of Railways Mr.M.Mallikarjun Kharge have finalised the list of names for top posts in the Railway Board – according to a source.

The post of Member (Staff) is vacant since long, while replacements for the posts of Chairman/Railway Board and Financial Commissioner are needed to be filled up urgently as Mr.Vinay Mittal, CRB and Vijaya Kanth, FC are scheduled to retire on June 30.

The panel of names has been drawn up and are forwarded for approval by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) sources said.

ACC approvals for such appointments are required three months before the post is falling vacant, but this time, the process has been delayed due of various recent scams and controversies in the Railways.

For the CRB post, it is likely that the names of three Cadre Officers viz.Mr.RS Virdhi, Mr.AK Mittal and Mr.VK Gupta figure in the list of recommended candidates who fulfill the twin criteria of having completed one-year service as General Manager (Open Line), while also having a residual tenure of two years.

Mr.Virdhi, who is the senior-most among the three officials, is being considered as the front-runner for the top post. At present, he is posted as the General Manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway.

However, the new rail minister remained tight-lipped on the top appointments, saying that he would discuss with the media later.
