No more ‘diamond crossover’ in Erode Junction

ERODE: The work on removal of the only ‘diamond crossover’ on the tracks near the Railway Junction here, is being carried out rapidly.

The removal of the crossover, the last that remained in Erode-Jolarpet section for the last six years, was necessary to eliminate the risk of collision.

The work that commenced on Tuesday will be completed on Thursday, Divisional Railway Manager of Salem Division Hari Shankar Verma said.

Since the track at the diamond crossover had been laid on wooden sleepers, the speed of trains was impacted.

The work was being carried out with sophisticated T28 machine after securing approval of Commissioner of Rail Safety and nod of other departments, Mr. Verma said.
