Nuruddin Trophy – Railways in full steam

Guwahati: NF Railway is on the verge of a win against Golaghat in their Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district elite group cricket tournament Group A league match at Barsapara Stadium here.

Put in to bat, the railmen were all out for 238 in 74 overs and Golaghat were reduced to 47 for five in 19 overs at the draw of stumps on the first day of the two-day affair.

NF Railway, too, suffered initial hiccups, losing four quick wickets, to be reduced to 26 for four in 11.3 overs at one stage. However, middle order tandem of Aman Chetry (73 off 174 balls, 4×11) and P. Trinath Rao (57 off 93 balls, 4×8, 6×1) shared a 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket to consolidate the innings.

Akash Rana also contributed a useful 22 (4×2, 6×1) and Sekharjyoti Barman remained unbeaten on 28 (4×4).

Paceman Pranjal Saikia was the Golaghat wrecker-in-chief having hauled four for 45 in 18 overs. Since the wicket was a pacer’s paradise, Jason Handique also scalped three for 28 and Kukil Saikia picked up two for 39. For Golaghat, Gitartha Basumatary (16, 4×3) was so far the notable scorer while Diku Chand and Jason Handique were batting on 11 and four respectively at close today. Left-arm seamer Akash Rana of NF Railway accounted for two dismissals.

T20 cricket: NF Railway will meet River Rine Club in the final of the 20th Uma Charan Bania T20 day-night cricket tournament at Judges Field here on Friday.

Das in trials: Assam Ranji cricketer Pritam Das has been attending a selection trial of the Indian Premier League outfit Kolkata Knight Riders at Calcutta since Monday.

The paceman got a call for the trials following his performance in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy limited-over tournament as well as the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament. He was also one of the most successful Assam bowlers in the CK Nayudu Trophy under-25 tournament earlier in the season.
