IR’s 15-day Railyatri Upbhokta Pakhwada 2015: NWR starts various station Amenities; launch Bio Toilet Testing Lab

Jaipur (JP): Launching a fortnight dedicated for offering various passengers amenities on Tuesday the officials north western railways were all set to upgrade the ‘Bio toilets’ installed at nearly 300 trains. Not only that many passengers facilities would be dedicated to the the passengers.

At a press conference after inagurating a Bio toilet bacteria testing labouratory, Anil Singhal, general manager, NWR talked about various things to be undertaken by their programme ‘Railyatri/Upbokta Pakhwada that will continue till June, 9.

It may be recalled that the passengers using the Bio toilet facility had complained that these toilets fitted in train coaches amid much fanfare are already stinking, as the stench is so foul that it is unbearable for those sitting near the toilets.

Thus, the NWR have started the testing laboratory which will help them in deciding when they need to change the toilet especially the bacteria concentrate put in these toilets.

“In every Bio toilet we have put concentrated bacteria which converts the stool into methane, carbon dioxide and water. In such toilets installed in 300 trains run by NWR the human excreta converts into gas which goes out from a chamber and into water. However, it needs to be checked if the concentrated bacteria in the toilet is working or not,” said Singhal while talking to the newsmen at the press conference.

Elaborating on the utility of having a Bio toilet testing laboratory in Jaipur, he said, ” Earlier we used to send the water sample in laboratory in Ajmer. Since we are increasing Bio toilets in trains there was a desperate need to have this facility in Jaipur itself thus we have one in the city now.”

On the fortnight celebrated by the NWR for improving passengers amenities, Singhal, said, “During this period we will interact with the passengers. Officers including me will travel in the general compartment to the trains connecting nearby towns such as Dausa to get the feedback of the passengers on the facilities they are getting.”

During this function the GM has also launched cleanliness drive at the railway stations. “We will also penalize the passengers responsible for making the railway stations flithy. Likewise, we will also bring awareness programmes through street plays, phamplets distribution and other means.”

In this fortnight not only the officials will directly interact with the rail passengers but they will also dedicate a few more facilities and things to the rail passengers.

Singal further stated that railways is aiming at issuing every unreserved ticket for the general class passengers in 5 minutes. “In order to issue the general class unreserved ticket to the passenger in just 5 minute we will install automated ticket vending machines(ATVM) at various stations. We are aiming for a scenario to have no queues for the passengers traveling in short distance trains in general class,” he added.
