LUCKNOW: Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar was at the Charbagh railway station on Saturday, not in connection with sport, but as part of the team of railway officials to conduct a massive ticket checking drive ‘Operation Chakravyuh’ conducted on the directions of the Railway Board. Kumar is a deputy chief commercial manager, New Delhi.
The Lucknow division of Northern Railway collected more than Rs 2 lakh as fine from passengers travelling without ticket. The ticket checking staff was present at every entry/exit point of the station and both ends of the platform to not let anybody escape without valid tickets.
Considering the massiveness of the exercise, staff from other divisions of NR was also called, said ACM (Ticket Checking), Lucknow, NR, Amitabh Kumar. Railway Board officials including Additional Member (Commercial) Amitabh Lal were present with DRM/Lucknow/NR Jagdeep Rai and Sr.DCM/Lucknow/NR, Ashwini Srivastava.
The drive was conducted to discourage ticketless travelers. Passengers were also charged for littering and smoking on railway premises, travelling with invalid tickets and luggage not booked . Railways earned a revenue of Rs.208344 which it realised as fine against 624 ticketless passengers/those with invalid tickets. It also earned Rs.28057 in 87 cases of littering and smoking and Rs.2300 for 19 luggage not booked. The passengers in the trains were also checked.
