Chairman, Railway Board questioned by CBI on his last day of retirement in RailGate saga

New Delhi, May 31: The CBI has recorded the statements of the Chairman of the Railway Board, Vinay Mittal, on his retirement day, in connection with the bribe-for-job scandal allegedly involving former railway minister Pawan Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla.

“Mittal was questioned on details of promotions and postings of Railway Board members on Thursday and Friday evening,” a senior CBI officer said today.

The central investigating agency said Mittal was not an accused in the case but was questioned for clarifications. The CBI is probing allegations that Rs 90 lakh was paid to Singla by Railway Board Member (Staff) Mahesh Kumar for his appointment as Member (Electrical). Both Singla and Kumar have been arrested, Bansal had to resign over the charges.

“Mittal is not an accused in the case and we wanted some clarifications from him,” the officer said.

The CBI has so far arrested eight persons accused in the case.
