K.N. Balagopal, MP, has urged the railway authorities to extend the Thiruvananthapuram-Egmore Ananthapuri Express and the Ernakulam-Bangalore Express to Kollam.
The petition in this connection was handed over to General Manager of Southern Railway Rakesh Misra on Friday.
In the petition, Mr. Balagopal highlighted the need for a second entry into the Kollam railway station from the Kollam-Punalur road. He also said the MEMU shed in Kollam was yet to start functioning. Rakes now has to be taken to Palakkad for maintenance. The process had affected the schedule of the MEMU service on the Kollam-Ernakulam section.
Mr. Balagopal wanted an MEMU service on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam section to be launched soon. Road over bridges should also be constructed at Kundara Pallimukku, Thodiyur, and Anvaneeshwaram, he said.
The need for a second entry into the Kollam railway station from the Kollam-Punalur road was also highlighted in the petition.
