Plot to blow up railway line between Canada and US is foiled

Canadian security forces say they have thwarted a plot to blow up a railway line between Canada and the United States.

US security and law enforcement sources said the suspects, with al-Qaeda links, had sought to attack the railway line between Toronto and New York city.

Canadian police say they have arrested two people and charged them with trying to carry out a terrorist attack against a Canadian passenger train.

The raids took place in Toronto and Montreal, Canada’s two biggest cities.

Canadian police believe those arrested had the capacity and intent to carry out the attack, but say there was no imminent threat to the public.

They also said they worked in close collaboration with the FBI in the operation.
