Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will officially discuss handing over of the Pune Metro project and the High Capacity Mass Road Transport (HCMRT) project to it.
The PMRDA meeting scheduled for Friday (May 29), which has been called by PMRDA President Girish Bapat, will discuss the issue of the hand over.
There are nine subjects on the PMRDA’s agenda for the meeting, one of which is handing over of the Pune Metro project, which is currently being executed by the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations.
The PMRDA said that the project should be handed over to it if the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations did not have any objections.
Now, the PMRDA has officially put forth a proposal for the same. Notably, the Mumbai metro project is being executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
It will be interesting to see what stand the municipal corporations take on the proposal as the PMRDA is headed by the BJP and both the corporations are headed by the NCP.
Along with the Metro project, the PMRDA is also seeking handing over of the Internal Ring Road project, which is commonly known as the HCMTR project. The PMC has already started the land acquisition process for HCMTR.
Recently, the State Government had approved execution of the External Ring Road project by the PMRDA as well. Earlier, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) was going to execute the project.
