PORBANDAR: Mahatma Gandhi is not only a legendary Leader & Father of our Nation, but his unique principles like Ahimsa, Shanti, Prarthana, Satyagraha & Swachchagrah have executed his large canvas image beyond all the borders at international level. While, the whole nation & world was celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October, 2018, the birth place of Bapu jee i.e. Porbander witnessed a memorable series of commemorative activities on this historic day.
According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Western Railway having the distinction of Porbander in its jurisdiction of Bhavnagar division under Gujarat state, especially celebrated 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with several commemorative events and activities held on 2nd October, 2018 in the premises of Porbandar Railway station.
Cleanliness in Railway Station and Yard.
The whole Porbander station area including circulating area and yard were made spick and span by deputing station staff and gang men. Additionally volunteers of Coast Guard Personnels also participated in Shramdaan activities.
Murals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Murals of Mahatma Gandhi including local art and culture has been painted on walls of station building, boundary walls, passage and waiting hall. Posters depicting “Ahimsa Parmo Dharm” and “Satyamev Jayte” has been put up in the circulating area.
Installation of Statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
In a vacant spot near VIP gate a statue of Mahatma Gandhi sculpted of marble has been installed with due respect.
Painting by Porbandar Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Twin life size portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi have been provided by Porbandar Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the same has been installed in front of main gate.
A digital screen of 55 inches has been provided in AC waiting room and Life history of Mahatma Gandhi is also depicted on posters.
Awareness programme was conducted by roping in school children of Navodaya Vidyalaya. Additional Collector Porbandar and local NGOs also participated. Nukkad Nataks were also performed.
Painting competition was organised in which children of railway colony participated enthusiastically and awards were distributed by senior Sectional Engineer.
