Posing as Railway contractors, five steal Signal Cables worth lakhs

मलाड Malad (MDD): A gang of crooks who pretended to be railway contractors and used a forklift to steal signal cables on the Western line were apprehended by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). While five persons have been arrested, one more is wanted in the case.

Around 4.05pm on Sunday, the RPF received information about railway cables being loaded into a truck near the old traction office at Malad (E). RPF personnel reached the location and found 12 signal cables worth Rs 1.2 lakh in the truck. Three men were found in the truck. An interrogation revealed they were actually thieves. The trio — Abu Juzafa Khan (22), Saujad Tufel Qureshi (32) and Kishan Kumar Maurya (42) — led the RPF to two other associates — Umesh Chand Yadav (34) and Manoj Gupta (37).

“The truck, the forklift and the stolen electric cables were seized. The accused revealed that a labour contractor, Sunil Khare, was the mastermind. A case has been registered under the Railway Act. We are looking for Khare,” said a senior RPF officer.
