Preliminary Survey held for Kanhangad-Kaniyooru new Railway Line

Kanhangad (KZE): palaA full survey for the proposed Kanhangad-Kaniyooru rail line, which will provide easiest access to Bengaluru from north Kerala, will be completed within three months, senior Railway officials have said.

This was disclosed by a three-member team of officials after completing a two-day preliminary survey of the 75-km route at a meeting held with the Kanhangad Town Development Action Committee office-bearers here in the presence of P. Karunakaran, MP.

The survey team, headed by S. Sreedharan, Senior Transportation Manager, Survey and Constructions, Southern Railway, held talks with local body representatives, office-bearers of trade bodies, and members of voluntary agencies along the route.

Those who attended the meeting include Kanhangad municipal chairperson K. Divya, Action Committee chairman P. Appukuttan, Kanhangad Railway-Passengers Association president T. Muhammed Aslam, BJP leader Madikkai Kammaran, and Joseph Kanakamotta, who has been credited with conceiving the rail line.

Kaniyooru, Mudnooru, Jalsoor, Sullia, Panathur, Kottodi and Meengoth have been identified as locations for setting up railway stations on the proposed route.
