The Pune Division of Central Railway operated about 194 holiday special trains between April and May to clear extra rush of passengers during summer season, said an official from Pune railway division.
Last year, the division had operated 169 trains in April and May of summer season. About 15% additional trains operated this year, as compared to last year’s season.
Besides, the administration augmented coaches to various trains to accommodate more number of passengers in trains to help bring down the waiting lists.
“Special trains were operated largely on routes such as Gorakhpur, Vilaspur, Nagpur, Solpaur, Patna, Manmad, Nanded, Habibgunj. All trains witnessed overwhelming response from passengers. It was difficult to operate trains on every route so extra coaches were attached to trains at all such routes”, said an official.
As many as 314 additional coaches were attached to trains of all types including AC, sleeper class and unreserved. Last year, about 257 coaches were attached to trains in April and May. About 22% more coaches were attached during current season”, said an official.
The official added that a special drive was conducted in last three months to keep a watch on touts at the reservation counters and restrict their nuisance. The official said that passengers have been urged to purchase reservation tickets at authorized counters only.
