Chandigarh (CDG): Appreciating the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu for his announcement of proposed rail link from Sri Anandpur Sahib to Sri Amritsar Sahib, Punjab Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi on Wednesday urged him to connect Tarn Taran, Khadoor Sahib and Sri Goindwal Sahib with the same. Joshi, in his letter to the Union Minister, requested him to include other religious towns of Tarn Taran, Khadoor Sahib, Goindwal Sahib, besides others in the proposed rail link between Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib to “encourage the religious pilgrimage in a big way”.
“Tarn Taran is a historical place which had been founded by the fifth Sikh master Guru Arjun Dev and is situated at a distance of 20 kms from Amritsar on its southern side. Adjoining Tarn Taran is another historical town of Khadoor Sahib where Guru Angad Dev, the second Sikh master, stayed for 13 years. On the same lines, Goindwal Sahib is equally important from religious point of view and the third Sikh master Guru Amar Dass stayed here for 33 years,” read Joshi’s letter.
“It will be more appropriate that the proposed rail link may be commissioned Amritsar- Tarn Taran-Khadoor Sahib-Goindwal Sahib-Beas-Jalandhar-Anandpur Sahib, so that the religious pilgrimage is encouraged in a big way,” he said. Concluding, he said: “I am confident that you will consider my request in the best interest of the residents of this beautiful state for the growth of religious tourism and for an all inclusive growth of society.”
