MUMBAI: Home Minister R.R.Patil on Monday blamed the railways for not heeding to repeated requests from Maharashtra to increase security on suburban trains.
The security of women on suburban trains is high on the state’s priority list but while it would want to take care of arrangements on its own, railways is not doing enough on its part, Patil said, adding that he had written a letter to the Union railway minister four days ago, bringing to his notice, the lacunae in the current security arrangements.
“Our people, women of our state; we would want them to feel secure. We are capable of handling it. But permissions have to come faster from the railways on our requests and proposals to strengthen force. It is just not happening,” he said.
