RailTel to energise 5 Railway Stations with Wi-Fi Services in Tiruchirappalli Division

Tiruchirappalli (TPJ): Passengers in the Trichy Railway Division are upbeat over steps being taken to provide wi-fi service at five stations in the division.  RailTel, the implementing agency of the project, has carried out preliminary survey.

The division has five important stations — Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Pondicherry, Villupuram and Trichy — which fall in A category.

With the government announcing to provide wi-fi service till B category stations, the officials are initiating steps in implementing the project.

According to sources in the railway department here, high speed internet cables will be laid at various points. The project will be implemented first in Chennai, which falls under A1 category.

Once commenced, the users will be allowed to use the facility for first 30 minutes free of cost and on further usage will be charged.

A help centre will be set up in the railway station to assist the users. The project is already being rolled out across the country in a phased manner and Bangalore was the first station where the service was introduced.

Vice-president of Thanjavur District Rail Users Association A Giri said this initiative brought by the central government has to be appreciated. He said the railways should make sure that the project is maintained properly.
