RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RailTel), a Telecom PSU under Minister of Railways, has been given the task of setting up Bhutan’s national broadband internet network, reports The Financial Express citing a senior railway ministry official. RailTel will lay the broadband network connecting all government institutes and the universities in Bhutan to help the country overcome its networking shortcomings and bring a more coordinated approach to development. An agreement has been signed with the ministry of information and communications of Bhutan, the official told the newspaper. Work on laying the network will start soon.
To help Bhutan overcome its networking shortcomings and bring a more coordinated approach to growth, RailTel now has the task of laying the broadband network that will link all government institutes and the universities in Bhutan.
This follows immediately after the opposition People s Democratic Party, which promised stronger relations with the Indian government in its election campaign, won 32 of the 47 seats in Parliament.
A top railway ministry official, said : ‘We will set up the data network in Bhutan. A national internet network would be laid connecting their government offices, universities and other important institutions. An agreement has been signed with the ministry of information and communications, Bhutan’.
