Railway Board assures Electrification, Track target achievements as mandated by PMO

Responding to principal secretary to the PMO, Nripendra Mishra’s letter, Railway Ministry tries to soothe the nerves by saying that the 2016 target of doubling 2,800 kilometres track will be met by March-April.

The Railway Ministry today assured the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that it will meet it electrification as well as track laying targets for 2016-17. The Ministry is confident of completing its track doubling target of 2,800 kms and electrification target of 2,000 kms for 2016-17. In January, the PMO had penned a letter to the Railway Ministry questioning the slow execution of projects. The PMO had also asked the ministry to speed up its electrification and track work. In Budget 2017, the government has laid down an extensive plan for the ministry with commissioning target of 3500 kms and electrification target of 4000 kms. The capital outlay for the next fiscal is Rs 1.31 lakh crore.
