Freight Revenue earnings up by 8.8% during Apr-Oct 2013

New Delhi: The railways have generated Rs.511.9 billion of revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during April to October 2013 as compared to Rs.470.45 billion during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.81%.

Railways carried 593.25 million tons of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-October 2013 as compared to 565.27 million tones carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.95%.

Out of the total earnings of Rs.77.30 billion from commodity-wise freight traffic during the month of October 2013, Rs.31.74 billion came from transportation of 37.78 million tons of coal, followed by Rs.7.83 billion from 10.14 million tons of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user, Rs.7.36 billion from 8.76 million tons of cement, Rs.6.23 billion from 4.16 million tons of foodgrains, Rs.4.69 billion from 3.43 million tons of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs.4.91 billion from 3.17 million tonnes of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, Rs.4.88 billion from 4.48 million tons of fertilizers, Rs.1.40 billion from 1.37 million tons of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs.3.57 billion from 3.49 million tons by container service and Rs.4.65 billion from 5.47 million tons of other goods.
