Perambur (PER): Union Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu today dedicated LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) manufacturing unit located at Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur.
The unit has been set up at a cost of Rs 252 crore to manufacture 300 LHB stainless steel coaches. He also flagged off the 50,000th coach manufactured at ICF. ICF is one of the earliest production units in India. It was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru in 1955.

In view of the need to switch over to stainless steel coaches, a project was sanctioned under the “Modernization and Expansion” of ICF to manufacture technology upgraded coaches with an increased production capacity from 1,500 to 1,700 coaches per year.
ICF is capable of producing close to 2000 coaches per year and has produced 50,000 coaches since its inception around in 500 different designs.
The factory has turned out an outrun of 1704 coaches in 2014-15 consisting of 50 variants. In 2014-15, ICF produced 1,704 coaches consisting of 50 variants involving high technological inputs, the release said.
