JAISALMER: With increasing demand for electricity in a scenario where Indian Railways is aiming at electrification, the railways is focusing on renewable energy. In this regard to look at the possibilities of setting up hybrid project of windmill and solar, railway board member Ghanshyam Singh and other officers inspected the ongoing works of wind mill project of railways at Fatehgarh in Jaisalmer district.
He said that demand for electricity is increasing in railways. “We are making action plan in exploring renewable energy. Twenty six megawatt windmill of railways is already there and there is huge scope to set up solar power project,” Arora added.
Railway board member and other officers visited Fatehgarh and will submit their report to government.
He added process is on to electrify all routes in Jodhpur division and in coming months it will be completed. The electric trains will start with getting electric blocks.
DRM Arora said barring few all unmanned railway crossings have been closed in Jodhpur division. “In April 2018 there were 276 ULCs of which 249 have been closed and on 27 ULCs movement of train is negligible and there is no need to close them,” he added.
He added that the facility of passengers including UTS mobile ticketing applications are being introduced and recently a facility has been launched in which passengers need not have to stand in queue for taking general tickets and by downloading an app can get railway ticket.
In order to have paperless journey and platform tickets, the smart phone should be GPRS enabled. Registration for UTS mobile application can be done through mobile phone application or railway website. There is scheme of 5% bonus will be given on every recharge to passenger.
“At present from Rai ka Bagh to Degana section the work of line doubling has been sanctioned and tender will be issued in October. Similarly work of laying new line from Jaisalmer to Thaiyat 56km is going on speedily and work of land acquisition has been completed. The work is going slow die to delay getting rail line but is expected to get soon and work will be completed by March 2019,” he added.
He said Jodhpur division has done excellent works in cleanliness. Jodhpur railway station has come first and jaisalmer has ranked fifth in 332 stations, Barmer 7th, Nagaur 15th and Pali 29th. Apart from this work has been started to improve passenger amenities in which foot over bridge, etc are being made.
