Railway Union elections held

ALLAHABAD: Railway union elections were held at various places of the Allahabad division stretching from Ghaziabad to Mughalsarai on Thursday. There were 29 booths for the employees cast their vote. About 39.4 per cent of employees exercise their right to franchise. An altercation between two groups of railway unions took place at a booth on the DSA ground.

Additional divisional railway manager of NCR said 29 polling booths were set up at various places. In Allahabad, there were seven polling booths, seven at Kanpur, two at Aligarh and one each at Chunar, Mirzapur, Fatehpur, Phaphund, Etawah, Shikohabad, Mainpuri and Khurja.

In Allahabad, polling booths were set up at DRM Office, Allahabad station, engineering section, Loco, hospital and DSA ground. In Kanpur, polling booths were set up at Kanpur station, Loco, Engineering, Civil Engineering Training Institute (CETA), GMC yard and RRI office.

There was an altercation between two unions at the DSA ground. Girish Tripathi, working as senior section engineer (works) sustained injuries when he was tying a sticker of a union and canvassing for it. The member of the rival group attacked and injured him. An FIR was lodged with Khuldabad police.

The elections were conducted peacefully at other polling booths.

The elections would continue on April 26 and 27.
