ECR GM inaugurates new facilities at Karbighaiya

6bhrECR_200639East Central Railway on Monday inaugurated the renovated waiting room and the ticket examiners’ room at the Karbighaiya end of Patna Junction to cater to the needs of passengers and railway employees.

Non-availability of waiting room on platform number 10 had forced passengers to occupy the facility on platform number 1.

Apart from the waiting room, East Central Railway (ECR) General Nanager Madhuresh Kumar also inaugurated the washable apron at platform number 8 and at the newly built platform number 10 at the Karbighaiya end. The apron is used for cleaning tracks. It will help clear the filth that accumulates on the tracks. Kumar also inaugurated the third foot overbridge at the station.

The ECR has developed a parking area with a capacity to accommodate around 150 vehicles and 50 autorickshaws. The Patna Junction has always faced the problem of parking but the new lot will be able to manage vehicular movement in the station area.

The Karbighaiya end of Patna Junction will now be used as the second exit for passengers, coming as a respite for those living in the southern part of the capital. Kumar also inaugurated a ticket-booking counter under the unreserved ticketing system.

Through this system, passengers can purchase unreserved tickets for short-distance travels.

“The railway is always at the service of passengers and the new facilities will just add to their benefit,” Kumar said, adding: “Our next aim is to make Patliputra railway station functional. We have decided on the trains that would ply to and from the station. Very soon, it will be at the service of the passengers.”

Danapur divisional railway manager, L.M. Jha, who was present at the inaugural function, said: “Officers of Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force would be deputed at the Karbighaiya end.”
