New Delhi: Indian Railways in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has planned to improve passenger amenities at 24 identified railway stations keeping in view the heritage and tourism value of the destinations. The upgradation and modernisation is to be done on 50:50 cost sharing basis. The priority of works for improvement of amenities has been jointly decided by the Ministry of Railways and MoT. This information was given by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Minister of State for Railways, Government of India, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha yesterday.
The stations identified are Hyderabad, Tirupati, Hospet, Agra Cantt; Rae Bareli, Varanasi, Delhi Sufdarjung, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Haridwar, Kurukshetra, Gaya, Madurai, Rameshwaram, Tarapith, Tarakeshwar, New Jalpaiguri, Thiruvananthapuram, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Nanded, Puri, Jaipur and Ajmer.
