Indian Railways zones will have to catch ticketless passengers from June 08 to June 22, 2018.
NEW DELHI: There have been many occasions where passengers take an unplanned train journey on Indian Railways at the last minute, but this leads to nothing else but shortage of train tickets which may force them to travel without one to the place they are going. While this would be the case for some, but a few citizens tarvel ticketless on trains purposely in order to save money.
But now, beaware! Because Indian Railways is bent on eliminating this practice that hurts its revenues. The Indian Railways has now decided to catch passengers who are travelling without ticket, and recently the Railway board has sent out a letter to all principal commercial managers giving guidelines for this move.
Under the letter, it has been revealed that, principal commercial managers will have to catch ticketless passengers from June 08 to June 22, 2018, and a report must be submitted by June 23, 2018 on the exercise by the various zones of Indian Railways.
It is being launched to detect fake tickets, forged tickets, misuse of passes as well as concessions among many other factors in this exercise. Not only this, the board will also keep a check of transfer of ticket cases and passengers travelling without tickets.
These passengers who are travelling without ticket will be penalised.
There is no shortage of train passengers being penalised, earlier it was highlighted that Indian Railways collected a massive Rs 1,097 crore between April 2017 to February 2018, via just penalties from ticketless travellers.
Apart from this, the board also booked 2,000 ‘touts’ involved in black marketing of train tickets.
