New Delhi: Despite Railways being the most economical mode of transportation, its traffic is going down as compared to other modes of transport and the reason is Railways has not spent enough for developing basic infrastructure for the freight sector, Railway Board Chairman A K Mital said today. Inaugurating the 16th National Seminar organised by the Centre for Transportation Research and Management (CTRAM) on the theme “Evolving Strategic Partnership for Select Freight Segments” here, Mr Mital said Railways has brought in various policies and initiatives for attracting investors in these sectors. It has also improved freight terminals as 90 per cent of the loading is done from these terminals and this seminar is supposed to concentrate on bringing the investment on terminals that is to attract more and more freight by loading steel, cement and automobiles, Mr Mital pointed out.
