Railways starts e-ticketing service for differently-abled

A photo identity card and an ID to be provided

E-ticketing, concession-based ticketing for the differently-abled in the railways was started yesterday. The differently-abled people will get a photo identity card and will be provided with a log-in ID and password, the details of which will be maintained by the Railways. Earlier, the differently-abled could not apply to avail concessions in e-ticketing.

One of the railway officials informed ADC that the people should submit their documents to the senior DCM to get their identity card and further get a permanent log-in ID and password. “The differently-abled passengers will have to submit a concession certificate, photo identity proof, date of birth proof, address proof, and two passport size photographs to the official. The documents should be submitted under: Application for issue of Railway identity card for physically challenged persons for e-ticketing. The applicants will receive a log-in ID and password which they could access whenever they want to book the ticket online,” said the official.

Meanwhile, railway activist Sameer Zaveri hailed the decision, saying, “It is really an impressive step that Indian Railways has taken for the benefit of differently-abled people. Since the percentage of disability is decided by the government and they have all the records, so the railways should get direct information from the government instead of asking every differently-abled to send their details.”
