Railways to boost Online Bookings for Meals, Mobile Ticketing and SMS updates

New Delhi:  Mallikarjun Kharge , announced that they will make the train travel an easy option to the public and introduce online booking for services like meals, mobile ticketing and SMS updates.  As the Railways Minister announced the Annual Railways budget, he brought forth modern technology as the new endeavour. Kharge announced that the passengers will be able to buy tickets for unreserved class travel through their mobile phones, soon. Earlier, the ministry had also announced automated SMSes for passengers to update them on their ticket PNR status.  The railways further plans to put Automatic Ticket Vending Machines, like the ones used by DMRC, at stations for quicker reservations. The machines will accept cash and card, both.  Passengers using the Indian Railways service will soon be able book meals online, using Indian Railways’ new meal-booking platform. This new option is likely to ease the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) train pantry from the food burden. The Railways will begin the e-forwarding note and electronic transmission of railway receipts for freight customers. This move will give relief to freight businesses as they can make the booking from their office. Railways will also computerise the claims settlement process for freight customers and passengers.
