Railways to construct a new Electrified Line between Indore and Bundi in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: With a major boost to rail infrastructure, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Shri Narendra Modi – Hon’ble Prime Minister, has approved to construct a new electrified line between Budni to Indore (Mangaliyagaon) in the state of Madhya Pradesh with an approximate length of 205.5 Km. The total estimated cost of this project is Rs. 3261.82 crore and will serve Sehore, Dewas and Indore districts of the state. The new line will provide basic infrastructure support for the industrial development of the surrounding area resulting in large socio-economic ramifications.

According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, a new line is set to be constructed between Indore and Budni in the state of Madhya Pradesh with an approximate length of 205.5 km and the total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 3262 Cr. The proposed line will cover the Sehore, Dewas and Indore districts and will bypass the congested Bhopal-Itarsi route. This proposed new railway line will also provide basic infrastructure support for the industrial development of the surrounding areas. This project will give huge boost for the development of the backward area of this region, where presently there is no rail connectivity, thereby, giving a huge impetus for the industrial development in the surrounding areas.

The project will include the construction of 10 new crossing stations and 7 halt stations on the route. This new line will provide better transport facilities for public and industries in this area. This new line will bypass the Bhopal – Itarsi route, reduce the distance between Jabalpur and Indore as well as from Indore to Mumbai and towards southern side by almost 68 km and will prove to be a reprieve for the passengers on the congested Bhopal – Itarsi route. Further, it will create employment opportunities of approx. 49 lakh man-days during construction of this new line. This project will also benefit the deference forces, as three of the Army’s premier training institutes are located near Indore. This project is meant for development of backward area of this region and to provide connectivity to various towns/villages like Nasrullaganj, Khategoan and Kannod, where presently there is no railway connectivity.
