Rain hits rail services, cuts-off villages in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Several passenger and express trains in Ahmedabad-Mumbai route have been running behind schedule due to waterlogged tracks, as heavy rain continued to pound southern Gujarat for the past 12 hours.

The rains that threw normal life out of gear in places like Valsad, Navsari and Surat also inundated major highways connecting the state with Mumbai.

As many as 14 villages in Umargam have been marooned and cut-off, prompting district administration to dispatch teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to rescue people stranded there.
