Secunderabad: General Manager, South Central Railway Mr.Ravindra Gupta stressed that the railway personnel should rely more on technology in order to enhance productivity within the resources, so as to stay on the course of development.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day’ celebrated today i.e. 17th May 2016 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad to mark the 151st Anniversary of International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The event was organized by RailTel, the ‘Mini Ratna’ Telecom Public Sector Undertaking under Ministry of Railways.
Ravindra Gupta, appreciated the services of RailTel towards attaining the goal of ‘Digital Rail – Digital India’. He commended the officials of SCR and RailTel for jointly achieving ‘ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Shield of Honour and Citation – 2015’ from ITU in recognition of coordinated efforts in improving communication technologies network on SCR.
The General Manager mentioned that there are several challenges at the field level to be addressed by harnessing the ICT viz., remote monitoring and predictive maintenance, centralized operation of stations in clusters, effective resource management to ensure material on demand at site/shop-floor which bring in efficiency and optimize man-power.
Mr.A.K.Gupta, Additional General Manager, SCR in his address observed that there is ample scope for RailTel and Railways to collaborate on various fronts in spread of IT Services in various departments of Railways.
Earlier, Mr.Mahaboob Ali, Chief Signal & Telecommunications Engineer, SCR who presided over the function mentioned the innovative Data Centre and TPaaS Services of Railtel having the potential of game changer in improving efficiency.
Mr.P.V. Sreekanth, Executive Director, RailTel presented the activities of RailTel and Railways over the last year towards ‘Digital Rail-Digital India’ program. Messages from Secretary General UN and Secretary General ITU on the theme ‘ICT Entrepreneurship for Social Impact’ were read out.
