Jaipur: After witnessing an overwhelming response on Day 2, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has decided to increase the number of trains till Sunday for passengers’ convenience. The JMRC earned Rs 8,23,904 on Thursday after operating the Metro for the full day, which is from 6.45 am to 9 pm.

A total of 69,834 passengers travelled on the second day as against 51,638 passengers on the first day. From Friday, the JMRC will run 41 extra trains as a large number of passengers across the state are reaching Metro stations to get acquainted with the new mode of transport.

Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) NC Goel said, “The number of trains have been increased from 131 to 172 till the weekend. We are expecting more passengers on off days so a decision has been taken to run more trains. On the second day till 3 pm, nearly 30,000 people travelled in the Metro.” During the next three days, JMRC is expecting more than 1,50,000 passengers per day .

JMRC has also decided that trains will run at an interval of 10 minutes all day as passenger load will be higher for next three days. Earlier, it was decided that the train would be available in every 10 minutes only during peak hours and in 15 minutes during non-peak hours. “On Thursday, the train was available in every 12 minutes till 1 pm, however, after seeing the rush, the duration was reduced and we made trains available in every 10 minutes.”

According to the officials, Thursday was the first day when the services begins in the morning (6.45 am) at the scheduled time and continued till 9 pm for passengers. No technical snag was faced during the operations. “We got a good response since morning. On the first train at 6.45 am, we received nearly 1,000 passengers from both ends.”

Officials said that though things like e-rickshaw and tempos would be available at nearby colonies upto a reach of 6 kms from June, 3 from the metro system but all of them would be fully operational in next 3 months.

He said that for the next 3 months the introductory fare in these vehicles from anywhere to the metro station would be Rs 5 for the e-rickshaw and Rs 10 for the van and tempos per passenger. “This is our initiative to connect the passengers residing nearby the metro station. I think this is a move to increase the passenger rush,” said CS Jeengar, Director (Operations and systems), JMRC.

He further stated that every vehicle running as feeder would have the numbers of the customer care of the metro stations and will also run with proper registrations. “The e-rickshaw has already been notified by the government of Rajasthan in the motor vehicles act. The process of getting the driving licenses for the e-rickshaw is on,” Jeengar added.

Goyal further stated that JMRC has introduced the feeder services through integrated transport system. “These vehicles will enable the passengers living in the periphery of the stations to easily come to the stations,” he said.

Asked about the issue of parking at the metro stations, Goyal said, “We have parking at almost every station excluding a few like Shyam Nagar. We have offered very nominal charges for the parking. For the bicycles Rs 2 per 8 hours, for two-wheelers Rs 5 per 8 hours and for four-wheelers Rs 15 per 8 hours.

“In order to avoid any foul play by the parking contractor the computerized parking slip would be given to the customers,” he added.

Officials said that the number of vehicles would be increased in future if the model becomes successful. “In this model which is developed on public private partnership we have no invested a single penny as the contractors would be responsible for the travel, fare and safety of the passengers. In lieu of the contract we will get Rs 15 lakh per annually as extra income to decrease the operational losses,” Goyal added.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is scheduled to inaugurate the Jaipur Metro Rail on Mansarover to Chandpole route on June 3.
