Kakinada: With the relentless efforts of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the Union Railway Ministry has agreed for inter-linking with the Samalkota-Kolkata main railway line, a long-pending demand of the denizens of the city, and sanctioned Rs.50 crore, MP Thota Narasimham has said.
He was addressing the first anniversary celebrations of the Smart City Mission on Saturday.
The state government is also releasing Rs.50 crore as a matching grant. With the Rs.100 crore funds, works like modernisation of Kakinada Port, setting up of new railway stations and upgradation of ESI Hospital to 100 beds are being taken up, the MP informed.
Kakinada Urban MLA Kondababu said that expansion of main thoroughfares, CCTV surveillance, multi-layered parking, 24-hour water supply, drainage and waste management, modern and English medium education, port and boatyard development are in the pipeline, MLA assured.
Later, the MP and the MLA along with Kakinada Rural MLA P Anantha Lakshmi, municipal commissioner S Aleem Basha and Union Urban Development Ministry deputy secretary Ravindra laid the stone for 5 MW solar roof-top photovoltaic project at Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC). They also inaugurated the e-Pathasala, smart city corporation office building and modern food vending carts. The KMC also released a 3-minute audio-video CD on the prospects of Kakinada as smart city.
