Sabarmati-Botad and Sabarmati-Ranuja tracks to be closed for Gauge Conversion work

AHMEDABAD: Indian Railway has decided to stop train movement from September 15 on the meter gauge Sabarmati-Botad and Sabarmati-Ranuja tracks for gauge conversion work.

The tracks were approved for conversion in 2007 and later railway minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered a survey in 2010. The conversion will help cut travel time to Bhavnagar. “It is possible that trains starting from Porbandar would also run on the new Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar track via Botad. Currently, these trains take the Jamnagar-Rajkot-Viramgam route for Ahmedabad,” said a railway official.

Four to five mail and express trains are likely to pass through the route.
