Safety Checks on newly-laid Puri-Sakhigopal section commences

Railway engineers on Friday examined the newly-laid tracks between Puri and Sakhigopal. Safety Commissioner Sudarshan Nayak along with the DRM/Khurdha Road Division of East Coast Railway travelled to Puri in a train comprising three bogies on the day and later inspected electrification, signal systems, interlocking mechanism and other safety measures on the tracks.

The testing work will continue for three days. Passenger trains will run on the new tracks after the Safety Commissioner issues required safety certificate.Earlier, the ECoR had announced to ply passenger trains on the new tracks from July to facilitate transport service to Puri in view of heavy rush of pilgrims during the Rath Yatra and Nabakalebar festivals.Source said besides 50 regular trains, 150 special trains would ply to Puri during the festivals.
