SALEM: The Salem division of Southern Railway has earned Rs 27,69,495 lakh through UTSONMOBILE (unreserved ticketing system on mobile) App since April 2018.
According to officials, the Salem division stands number one in generating revenue among other divisions in Southern Railway using the App.
“Using the App, 2,48,602 passengers have travelled across Salem division since April 2018,” U Subba Rao, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) told.
He said Coimbatore railway station stands first in revenue generation using the App when compared to other railway stations in the division. “Of them, 87,003 passengers had travelled from Coimbatore railway station,” the DRM said.
While Mettupalayam railway station earned a revenue of Rs 2,31,770 collected from 43,940 passengers using the app, Erode railway junction earned Rs 5,25,440 from 36,291 passengers. Tirupur railway station generated a revenue of Rs 4,04,515 from 41,779 passengers while Salem railway station earned Rs 2,44,610 from 9,711 and Karur railway station earned Rs 79,860 from 5,267 passengers.
The DRM said passengers can travel without taking hardcopy of the ticket.
“Whenever ticket checking staff asks for the ticket, the passenger can use ‘Show Ticket’ option in the app to show the ticket,” the DRM said. The season ticket can also be issued or renewed from the App and it will be valid from the next day of booking the ticket. No need of GPS for issue or renewal of season ticket.
He urged the passengers not to stand in long queues when they take unreserved tickets and insisted on booking them using ‘UTSONMOBILE’ App.
The Indian Railways had introduced the App in April 2018. The app was developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS).
The App enables booking and cancellation of unreserved tickets, issuing and renewal of season and platform tickets, checking and loading R-wallet balance. It also helps to maintain user profile management and booking history.
The UTSONMOBILE App is very handy, free and is available for both Android and Windows smart phones. Users can download this app from Google Play Store or Windows store at free of cost.
The Salem Division has 96 railway stations, including major railway stations in Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Mettupalayam and Karur.
