Bhimkhoj (BMKJ) / Mahasamund (MSMD): The movement of trains were disrupted and passengers faced inconvenience for more than three hours as engine of Nizamuddin-Visakhapatnam Samta Express broke down near Bheemkhoj station on Wednesday. Several goods trains were also delayed because of the glitch.
Engine of Samta Express failed between Haadaband railway crossing and Bhimkhoj station late on Tuesday night where the passengers in the train were stranded for over three hours. After a complaint was sent to the management of Bagbahara and Mahasamund railway stations, an engine was brought from Raipur. Subsequently, bogies of Samta Express were attached to the engine and the train proceeded.
The train, which was already running late, reached Bagbahara station at 12 noon instead of its scheduled arrival time at 8 am. After learning about the engine failure of Samta Express, the railway management had halted Visakhapatnam-Durg passenger at Bagbahara station. The passenger train finally reached Mahasamund at 12.45 pm against its scheduled arrival time at 9.35 am. Other Visakhapatnam-bound trains plying via Raipur were halted at Mahasamund Railway Station.
It may be noted that a single railway line is laid from Mahasamund to Titlagarh which has been disrupted for a fortnight. While the line was disturbed from December 12-19 owing to the construction of underbridge, railway traffic was thrown out of gear on December 23 after a tractor met with an accident at an unmanned railway crossing Paterapali route.
