SCR hosts Indian Railways ‘Chief Commercial Managers Conference’

Rail NilayamSecunderabad: South Central Railway will hold a two day annual conference of the Chief Commercial Managers of all Zones of Indian Railways at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad on 26th & 27th May, 2016. Shri Mohd. Jamshed, Member Traffic, Railway Board, New Delhi will preside over the conference. Additional Members and Executive Directors of Railway Board in-charge of Commercial, Catering, Information Technology, Rates and Public Grievances, will also take part in the conference proceedings. Important issues concerning the travelling public, such as improving passenger amenities at stations and trains, enhancing the quality of catering services, improving customer interface by leveraging information technology, etc. will be deliberated in detail in the conference.

Problems pertaining to freight customers such as improving the freight terminals, competition from road sector, etc. will also be discussed. Some of the existing rule regimes that are affecting the customers such as improving the incentives to freight customers, simplifying the rules for procurement of privately owned wagons etc. will also come up for scrutiny.

A sub-committee of senior Officers consisting of Chief Commercial Managers of Zonal Railways will deliberate on rules that needs to be changed to improve the ease of doing business with Railways.

Some of the rules on which number of public complaints are being received such as modification of the concessions to senior citizens, refund rules for waitlisted tickets, etc. will also be discussed in detail.

The decisions arrived at the conference will be implemented by the Railways in a phased manner and these are expected to make the Indian Railways much more customer friendly.
