SCR register 8% increase in freight traffic

The South Central Railway (SCR) has recorded 8% expansion in cargo loading through 2012-13, backed by a raise in the movement of fertilizers and coal. During the year, it carried 111.5 million tonnes (mt) of cargo as compared to 103.2 mt in the earlier financial.

Coal loading surged 17% due to a boost in production by Singareni Collieries. Off take of coal from the state-owned miner stood at 32.6 mt through the year, up from 30.3 mt in the earlier year. SCR zone hauled 62.5 mt of coal, which accounted for 56% of its total freight loading.
