Secunderabad: The South Central Railway has shown an improved performance in gross earnings and traffic volume during the first half of the current fiscal, i.e., April to September 2013, vis-à-vis last year.
The gross originating earnings of SCR has registered 6.22 per cent growth during the first half of the current financial year. The Zone has achieved Gross Originating Earnings of Rs. 4973 Cr. during this period, which is Rs. 291 Cr. more when compared to Rs.4682 Cr. earned during the corresponding period last fiscal.
Under Freight Segment, the SCR loaded 52.1 Million Tonnes (MT) of originating freight during first half of current fiscal. It loaded 13.65 MT of Cement during the period being reported, compared to 13.57 MT loaded during the corresponding period of last fiscal, registering an increase of 0.8 per cent. At 3.3 MT, the food grain loading surpassed the corresponding loading in the last year by 16.9 per cent. The cumulative loading of fertilizers up to September, 2013 was 2.6 MT, which is 10.6 per cent more compared to last year. Similarly, coal accounts for the largest chunk of freight loading on SCR accounting for 53 per cent of the total loading. SCR loaded 27.6 MT of Coal during the first half of current fiscal as compared to 29.4 MT loaded during the same period of last year.
During the first half of current fiscal, the rail freight loading at Krishnapatnam Port was 7.1 MT as compared to 5.8 MT loaded during the same period of last year, registering a growth of 22.4 per cent. The major commodities dealt at this Port include Coal and Fertilizers. During the period, the rail freight loading at Kakinada Sea Ports Limited was 3.1 MT as compared to 2.5 MT loaded during the same period of last year, an improvement of 26.3 per cent. The Originating freight earnings registered a marginal growth of 1.4 per cent during the first half of the current fiscal. During this period, the originating freight earnings were Rs. 3430 Cr. as against Rs. 3395 Cr. achieved in the same period of last year.
In the Passenger Segment, the Zone carried 197.1 millions of originating passengers during April to September, 2013, compared to 193.8 millions of passengers during corresponding period of last year. The passenger volume registered a growth of 1.7 per cent. At present, SCR carries around 10.80 lakhs of originating passengers on an average per day.
The Passenger earnings have shown a growth of 20 per cent with Rs.1286 Cr during April to September 2013, compared to Rs. 1070 Cr. during the corresponding period of last fiscal.
