Last leg of electrification on the route i.e. on Gooty-Guntakal section will pave way for running goods trains from Chennai and Krishnapatnam Port
Guntakal (GTL): The South Central Railway (SCR) on Wednesday announced that with the completion of works on the electric traction project on the 130-km Muddanuru-Guntakal broad gauge double line, train nos. 11041/11042 Mumbai CST-Chennai Central-Mumbai CST Express and 11027/11028 Mail between the said places would be run.
Also, five more trains are to be run on electric traction soon, apart from other goods trains. They include train no. 17415/17416 Tirupati-Kolhapur-Tirupati Haripriya Express, train No. 57273/57274 Hubli-Tirupati-Hubli Intercity Passenger, train No. 17429/17430 Hyderabad-Tirupati-Hyderabad Rayalaseema Express, Train No. 16381/16382 Mumbai CST-Kanniyakumar-Mumbai CST Jayanti Janata Express and train No. 12163/12164 Mumbai Dadar-Chennai Egmore-Mumbai Dadar Superfast Express.
SCR General Manager P.K. Srivastava, while complimenting the officials, wanted them to speed electrification on other sanctioned routes to get optimal operational benefits. The move to run trains on electric power in the said section came after the nod given by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
The Renigunta-Guntakal section electrification originally started in 2004-05 on 180 km between Renigunta and Muddanur, followed by a 130 km stretch from Muddanur to Guntakal. The last leg on the route, 30 km on Gooty-Guntakal section was energised on December 5, 2013, paving the way for running goods trains from Chennai and Krishnapatnam Port to Guntakal.
