SER launches Special Drive to curb malpractices in mass contact areas

Kolkata (KOAA): South Eastern Railway (SER) has launched a special drive to curb malpractices in mass contact areas and improve passenger amenities. On Wednesday, Radhey Shyam, general manager, SER, instructed all divisional railway managers and principal heads of department to launch the two-month special drive from Thursday.

“The main objective of conducting such a drive is to ensure hassle-free and comfortable journeys to passengers with improved amenities, particularly during the Summer months. Regular checks will be conducted at all reservation offices to keep close watch on the sale of tickets. The attempt is to curb the sale of fake or forged tickets, used tickets and refund of tickets,” a senior SER official said.

Shyam has also asked concerned officials to make necessary arrangements to stop booking of accommodation in unreserved coaches by anti-socials. Special checks are to be held on a regular general coaches to detect the fraudulent use of tickets and misuse of various quotas.

“The general manager also directed that all reserved coaches be manned to ensure proper utilisation of vacant berths generated when passengers don’t turn up. Close vigil will also be maintained on misuse of passes, warrants and concessions. The GM has also given special thrust on cleanliness on trains, at stations and other railway premises. Divisional authorities have been asked to ensure this. Proper lighting arrangements, functioning of passenger amenities, proper working and upkeep of escalators, retiring rooms, waiting rooms, parking areas, availability of adequate and clean drinking water at platforms and toilets are being monitored. Concerned authorities have been asked to ensure safety and security of passengers and luggage during journey,” said Sanjoy Ghosh, chief public relations officer, SER.

Shyam has also instructed all DRMs and HODs to conduct regular checks on assets failure so that train operations and punctuality are not affected.
