KOLKATA: During the first two months i.e. April-May of current financial year (2018-19), South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 2089.66 crores from originating freight traffic which is Rs. 202.35 crores more than the corresponding period of last year i.e. 2017-18 thus registering a growth of 10.72 %.
This growth in freight earnings has been possible due to increase in freight loading during the above period. Coal loading during April-May of the current financial year has been 5.45 million tonnes which is a growth of 60% in comparison to the corresponding period of last year. The other major components of freight loading were 12.23 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 2.52 million tonnes of Pig-Iron & Finished Steel, 2.02 million tonnes of Cement etc.
South Eastern Railway’s total freight loading during April-May of the current financial year has been 24.22 million tonnes as against 23.64 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year recording a growth of 2.45%.
